"Miriam is the most beautiful woman I've ever met."
- Rex Dominus

That sentiment by the Ventrue Prince of Vegas about his Nosferatu Primogen, Miriam Ciccone, is echoed by anyone who has met her. Not much is known about Miriam except the kindness of her heart. Known all around the southwestern United States as "Mom" or "Mimi", she is famous for making a haven for any vampire who needs one. While she has a heart of gold, an infinite patience, and a fair mind, she does not suffer fools gladly.

She doesn't like to talk much about her past, as it haunts her to this day. It is known that she grew up in a small village near Montenotte, Italy and was a lovely, sweet, and beautiful woman. In 1796, she was a young mother, she had a husband and four children whom she loved very much. But 1796 saw Northern Italy become entrenched in the French-Austrian War.

One foggy Tuesday morning in April, Miriam left to go to market in town. Little did she know the town was about to become part of history. A young Napoleon Bonaparte, the new General of the French Army in Italy, lead 10,000 men through an Austrian force that had been occupying the area.

Miriam fled the town, only to return to her village to find her home and those of her neighbors in flames. There was nothing they could do but stand there and watch their lives turn to ashes before them. If her husband and children were inside, they surely perished, which she assumed was the case, because she never saw them again.

For years after, many men went off to fight in the Italian-French army that would see republics in Italy rise under Napoleon's early reign. Miriam stayed with a few families who took her in, working as a wet nurse for them. One kind family gave her their home when they moved away, seeking a new life away from the war-torn region. For a year, she offered her home to travellers and soldiers as an inn, but she charged only what she needed to afford food for everyone.

One day, a man in shambles found her home; covered in filthy rags and horribly hunched from age, he had been turned down from other inns. She took him in without a second thought, cared for him, and was not repulsed by his countenance once it was discovered.

The two became friends, and she became his confidant. He slept during the day and only woke at night to terrible fits of hunger. He would leave at night and return feeling better, but eventually the secret was revealed, and she did not judge him. He swore he only fed on animals and would never harm a human. She knew he was a slave to his nature and was not a monster.

But sadly, one night, his hunger was not sated on the animals that lived in the nearby mountains, and he returned with a fury in his eyes she had never imagined possible. In a state of Frenzy, he slaked his thirst on her and drained her before he realized what he had done. He could not bear to live with this and gave her some of his blood... then bade her to drink it all. The bloodlust awoke in her the same thirst he felt, and she, too, drank too much. It was as if his blood compelled her to take his life so she might live on, and care for others. He died in her arms because of what she was to become.

The curse of the Nosferatu blood changed her visage and the townsfolk shunned her immediately. She could not be seen by those who used to know and love her, so she left Italy and never returned. She wandered the war-town Europe, and eventually made it on a voyage to the New World. Wherever she stayed, though, she always made a home for anyone who needed it.

Eventually she moved to West Las Vegas and bought a rundown casino hotel called the Moulin Rouge, keeping it from being demolished. The Moulin Rouge was a very special hotel; when it opened it was the first and only hotel which catered to Black guests, most notably the Black entertainers in Vegas, like Sammy Davis, Jr., who were shunned by the Jim Crow segregation laws in Las Vegas at the time. It did not last long as a hotel, especially once the laws were repealed, and it changed ownership many times.

It now serves as a place where homeless humans and vampires can stay. She makes the vampires who stay there swear they will not harm the human residents, nor reveal their nature. She believes in the Masquerade, and pays attention to the politics of the town.

When Rex met her, he was planning to buy the deed to the property and turn it into a club, renovating it and bringing new life to the west side. This club is what would have become Nocturne, but she convinced him to let it remain hers. Her tenacity, warm heart, and her fair mind, also convinced him she would make an excellent member of his Primogen.
