'Free and Easy'

I want to be so free, so easy.
That’s what she said,
Then she met this man-
His face was cold,
His eyes, they flashed,
And filled her heart with the deepest dread,
Wanted to run, wanted to hide,
But they drew her in close, instead.

But what is free, or easy,
When it’s a long and lonely ride,
Used by the devil for evil pleasure,
The emotions churn inside:
Fear, disgust, anger,
(These things the girl must endure)
Feeling nothing,
Looking past him,
She takes it all in her stride.

Tell the people you trust the most,
They don’t understand;
One by one they left you,
Until at last,
Alone, you faced an empty hand.

It wasn’t very long ago-
The scars are fresh,
Full of pain.

So when angels cry,
And demons laugh,
When it's time to play the part she knows,
She knows.
